About the client: After 18 years of activity in Romania, Piraeus Bank was acquired by the J.C Flowers, a private equity leader, and it became First Bank. As part of its rebranding strategy, the company needed a smart, customer-centric and easy-to-use banking application to stay ahead of the curve. That’s where we came in, providing the design needed to skyrocket the conversion rate.
A moodboard is a way to collect different creative information in order to prepare for a new project. It’s a segue between initial thoughts or meeting and the first draft of the project. This was our starting point.
Here you can find the conception and stylistic decisions for the User Interface design (UI) of this application.
Our goal was to create an efficient and bright design of the interface that would have high aesthetic representation, without confusing the end-user.
To better understand and address the pain points and needs, we started our design process by conducting a series of workshops together with the stakeholders, product owners, and the development team. Engaging all parties in these sessions brings great benefits in terms of understanding the requirements and desires, as well as generating innovative ideas for solving specific problems.
By running discovery workshops we identified our client’s needs, as well as the development requirements, which led to the creation of wireframes and action items for all team members involved in the project.
We continued with researching the latest UX trends, design principles and rules, as well as studying our competitors’ approaches.
We also conducted frequent brainstorming sessions with the development team and product owners to learn further about our client’s specific needs
During this stage of the process, we designed high fidelity user flows to ensure that users can successfully complete their key objectives. Additionally, we reevaluated each path with the stakeholders, product owners, and the development team, for better optimization and improved personalization.
To further improve the User Experience, we also created micro-interactions and animations which were implemented by the development team
More than 250 screens and screen states were created for the mobile version only. On top of that, we designed more than 100 additional screens for the desktop version.
The principles of scale, visual hierarchy, balance, and contrast not only create beautiful designs, but also increase usability when applied correctly. We’ve made sure to infuse all of these design rules and best practices to provide seamless User Experience and robust interaction.
To stand out from its competitors, the app needed its own personality. So to achieve this, we created custom illustrations, pictograms, and iconography, designed from scratch, and created an unparalleled experience that is driving in-app engagement.
Since the application empowers users to make changes to their accounts or add new banking products, we focused on crafting easy-to-follow journeys for them to complete key objectives, and at the same time ensuring they feel in control and secure.
The user interface is clean, minimalistic, with rounded features. We also added micro-interactions to delight the user and create moments that are engaging and welcoming.
